Robin NahasRICHMOND’S VFL coach Tim Clarke says it will be up to the players on the fringe of the list to maintain their fitness and be on stand by in case they are called upon for finals.

Clarke said the team had arranged to play a VFL practice match against Collingwood if the Pies VFL team had missed the finals – but they will play week one of the finals against Port Melbourne.

Richmond’s affiliate Coburg missed this finals. It was the final time they played together on the weekend with Richmond set to field a stand alone team from next season.

Clarke said Sam Lonergan and Robin Nahas, who picked up 28 disposals in the VFL on Sunday, would be in the mix for a recall if needed.

“We’ve got some guys who have put their hands up. Sammy Lonergan, our keys Todd Elton and Ben Griffiths, they haven’t played a lot of senior footy this year but if one or two of our guys go down, Orren’s (Stephenson) in that same boat. They’ve got to make sure that they’ve got to be ready,” Clarke said.

Defender Matt Dea, who had seven goals kicked on him by Frosty Miller Medallist Dean Galea, is also in the mix if a defensive position is needed to be filled.
